SUMMER INTERSHIPS & IMMERSIONS

Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship (Leadership Initiatives, VA)    Jun – Jul 2023

Spearheaded an incisive analysis of human health and diseases working alongside Dr. Marc Zavarro and other esteemed medical professionals through strategic partnerships with health experts from WHO, UNICEF, and NIH. Actively engaged in observing real-time patient diagnoses at Nagari Medical Clinic & Maternity Ward in Bauchi State, Nigeria. Championed a capstone project by galvanizing a student team to craft a groundbreaking public healthcare campaign, elevating awareness of anemia across underdeveloped Sub-Saharan African communities, which Nigerian officials successfully implemented nationwide in 2023. I secured this prestigious paid internship, standing out as one of 50 students selected from a competitive national pool of 1,000 high school applicants.

Anatomy & Physiology course immersion (Rice University, TX) Jun – Jul 2023

Intensely investigated the major systems of the human body, mastering intricate details of the neurological, cardiovascular, pulmonary, muscular, and skeletal systems. Engineered a capstone project by designing an innovative heart model simulation, vividly demonstrating the management of deoxygenated and oxygenated blood and its critical impact on bodily functions. I earned this coveted spot at Rice University’s scholarship-supported summer immersion program through a highly competitive selection process.

Summer Music & Band Residential Camp (University of Houston, TX)      Jun 2024, Jun 2025

Commanded and mentored junior clarinet students as section leader, inspiring the team to achieve excellence in solo and concert performances, culminating in the esteemed “Chair” award in music. I secured this coveted position among 100 students selected from a highly competitive statewide pool of over 2,000 applicants through rigorous auditions.

Duke University Summer Camp for Gifted & Talented (Duke University, NC)      Jun – Aug 2018

As a Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP) recognized gifted & talented student, I earned a spot at Duke’s prestigious summer camp. There, I trained as a young investigator, identifying problems, challenging myself to comprehend their root causes, and collaborating with gifted peers to resolve complex issues. This formative experience cultivated an inquiry-based approach to learning, prompting me to pose challenging questions, investigate deeply, and uncover knowledge independently at a very young age. It sharpened my higher-order thinking skills—critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity—which profoundly propelled my research, publications, and national & international competitions throughout high school. For my summer capstone project, I tackled and resolved an abdominal pain conundrum.
